Style for Style

I know that it is Halloween weekend and I should be posting about spooky and scary things, bug this month has been so crazy I never had a chance to plan a great outfit! I ended up running to the store and grabbing a last minute unoriginal costume- a sexy fire fighter. Now, I usually don't go for sexy. I would prefer to be something clever, funny or glamorous. Despite this being a lack luster costume I know I will have fun spending tonight with my close friends and tomorrow with my family. I thought I would leave you with some inspirational style pictures from Stockholm Street Style. Whenever I visit the site I spend an hour shifting through images and saving them to my desktop. I need that bright purple sweater and those Topshop boots!
Have a wonderful Halloween weekend ladies!

My Kodak Moments

The other day I decided to snap some random photos of things that stood out to me. Now, I have a lot to learn about photography and this is a p&s camera. I was just enjoying the life and snapping pictures. If I learn some skills I will add more to the blog. I go crazy for a good apple. I keep them in the fridge and love their cold sweet crispness. My jewelry and perfume are like my old friends. I save bottles that remind me of a certain time in my life! I have my grandmother's pearl ring that she wore obsessively. Now, whenever I wear it I feel like I get to be close to her. Also, my Coco Mademoiselle Chanel perfume that I made me feel sexy and spicy! Of course, I had to snap a photo of this delicious pumpkin bread. I could almost be happy enough just smelling it's intoxicating scent, but when it came out it was so tempting I just had to dig in!

Can't Go Wrong with a Classic

{Bebe trench, Forever 21 dress, Banana Republic pendant, Michael Kors heels, Aldo bag, Raybans}

The weather here in Northern California has decided to go warm again. It's been a challenge trying to keep up. Luckily, I found this light weight trench coat at Bebe over the weekend. It is exactly what I have been looking for. It is one of the most comfortable jackets I own. I can't wait to layer it with jeans and tall boots once it is cold again.

Hayden Panettire Wearing Elizabeth and James

Hayden Panettiere wearing Elizabeth and James mini dress with a violet Nancy Gonzalez bag, Joan Hornig earrings and Giuseppe Zanotti booties.
This my friends is how I like to dress. Hayden looks amazing as she is leaving the MTV studios. She mixed this feminine and soft Elizabeth and James dress perfectly with chic ankle booties and her clutch really pops with against the muted tone of the dress. Immediately, after laying eyes on this look I scoured to the internet to find my own version. Although, I may need to buy this exact dress. Too bad it isn't in stores yet.
Since this particular dress isn't available here are some hot alternatives.

Both available at Shop Bop

Living in Leather

{Anthropologie knit cap, Forever 21 turtle neck, A&F jeans,Brass Plum Jacket. and Urban Outfitters flats}
When you think of style icons you don't usually think of Jessica Biel. She is more known for her rocking body than her fashion sense. However, she is one of my favorites. I love that Jessica has an athletic body and still manages to wear skinny jeans and body conscious dresses with no hesitation. She is a great role model and inspiration for women everywhere. If you haven't noticed Jessica loves her leather jackets. This trend is hot this fall and I have definitely jumped on the bandwagon. Like Jessica, I adore a good pair of flats. To tell you the truth, on a normal day I would chose flats over a good pair of heels! If you would like more details on this jacket visit Brass Plum

Full of Grace

{PC: Fashion Gone Rogue -Vogue US}
Another week is flying by and I have hardly even blinked. I apologize for not having a more detailed post today, but I have been working late and didn't have time last night. I did stumble upon this amazing editorial in Vogue by the incredible Grace Coddington (The model seems to be channeling Grace's hairdo). After seeing The September Issue I have a new found admiration for her and her talent. She is truly the creative mind behind Vogue.

I am a sucker for florals and I think these get ups are mouth watering! I would love to have a few to mix into my fall wardrobe. Today I am heading into San Francisco for work and may stop by Zara for some new friends to add to my closet!

Red, White and Black

{Forever 21 dress, Anthropologie tights, Aldo heels, Brass Plum faux leather jacket}

 Why is the weather schizophrenic here in the Bay Area? It is warm and 80 degrees and then the next morning it is freezing and raining. What's a girl to do? Go with the flow, I guess. I pulled out the red tights. The last time I wore these was on my birthday last year. It was a  20's era theme and these tights had a great time that night!

My Heart Belongs To Stella

Stella McCartney's Spring/Summer 2010 collection was made for a girl with an optimistic attitude. At the back of Stella's runway was the word "Yes"! This word symbolized this collection's free spirit, vibrant colors and upbeat feeling. The clothes were simple, but full of life. This is why I love Stella. She makes clothes for women who love fashion, but don't take it too seriously. The Stella woman is stylish, sexy, and chic, but doesn't spend hours getting ready in the morning. She wants a wardrobe that will allow her to be functional. This collection was ultra feminine with bright colors, silk pants, ruffles, and dresses with a 70's inspired look. Stella knows that focusing on tailoring and on clothes that women actually want to wear gives her a worldwide appeal. A woman can slip on any piece from the collection and feel confident and empowered. This seems even more important since we have had such a hit in the economy and still haven’t pulled ourselves out. Times like this call for clothing that makes us smile and feel like we can get through anything.

Cargo Glitter

{Gap jacket, Bebe dress, Forever 21 leggings, Aldo booties, Betseyville bag}
Well the week is coming to an end! It's been a gloomy rainy week, but I have enjoyed it. I have been dreaming of grabbing some hot coco and curling up by the warm fire! Also, with this drizzling forecast I can throw on my jackets that have been collecting dust in my closet! This is an outfit I consider cargo glitter. I bought this jacket years ago at Gap and it never goes out of style. Like I have said a few times before- I really enjoy mixing masculine and feminine pieces together. I like how the jacket keeps the sequin dress from looking to fancy. I am eager to buy some vintage blazers soon for the rest of fall. I hope to get to the flea market soon!!

Fashion Idol of the Week- Taylor

This week’s fashion idol is Taylor, who exudes a bright, warm presence like her home state- sunny California. Taylor’s style is a little bit savvy, a little bit boho and very much gorgeous. Her beauty and style is not her only appeal. She also happens to be an Alpha Shopper for Lucky Magazine which allows her to review products, give input on shopping and style, go to stylish events, and report on what’s happening in her city. What I love the most about Taylor is that she has a great sense of humor making us want to admire her style from afar and also want to be her friend.  Take a peak into her fashionable world at Sterling Style and I promise you will instantly get addicted.

The Interview

La Mimi: Name, age, location

Taylor, 27, Bay Area, CA

La Mimi: What is the mission of your blog- Sterling Style?

Taylor: “Sterling Style” is my online inspiration board and look book. I wanted to have a place to share what things excite me and to give tips on style. It has become an incredible outlet for me. I am so glad others enjoy it too.

La Mimi: Who/what inspires you?

Taylor: I am inspired by so many things, but if I had to pick something or someone I would say my mother. She really turned me onto fashion. Plus, she is one of those women who can do it all and then some. She is not afraid to have multiple careers and run a family. She never allows her passions to fade. She acts on them.

La Mimi: When did you fall in love with Fashion?

Taylor: I fell in love with fashion at a very young age. I would always sneak into my mother’s closet and try on her dresses and jewelry. For my 17th birthday party I made a collage of all my favorite editorials and turned it into my invitations. Also, in college I kept a “fashion bible” of all my favorite looks and models and interned at WWD. So, I would say it has always been a passion of mine.

La Mimi: Vintage vs. New, what do you like more and why?

Taylor: This is a tough on too. I would hate to say I prefer one over the other because my wardrobe is full of both. I would have to say “new” only because I shop it more often. However, if I had more time I would vintage shop a lot more. I love how the clothes have a story.

La Mimi: Describe your personal style in a sentence.

Taylor: My style is eclectic with a strong bias towards girlie bohemian glamour.

La Mimi: What are you into wearing right now?

Taylor: I can’t seem to shake wearing a fitted blazer with a floral dress and boots. I love mixing feminine with masculine pieces together.

La Mimi: Who is your favourite designer and why?

Taylor: I love Stella McCartney. She really understands what women want to wear and makes clothes for the “real” woman. Every time I see her shows I feel I could literally walk out the door with every piece. They are so functional and at the same time exquisite.

La Mimi: Your favourite fashion movie?

Taylor: Recently I watched “Bonnie and Clyde” with Faye Dunaway. I fell in love with her style in that movie. I love all of her berets, trench coats, and cardigans. She could be in a Burberry advertisement.

La Mimi: Please share some words of wisdom with La Mimi readers.
Taylor: Diane Von Furstenberg said, “The biggest mistake a woman can make is not to be herself in public or private.”  I couldn’t agree more. I think as women we struggle with finding our own identity and we try so hard to please others.  Women are attractive when they are true to themselves even when no one is looking.
I was thrilled and honored to be featured on La Mimi yesterday! Mimi is an image consultant and wardrobe stylist who also has an amazing website where she shares her tips for style and updates on the latest trends. I am just excited to be considered one of her fashion idols! I mean she has girls like Krystal from What is Reality Anyway? and Zanita! Please check out my feature and drop a comment if you can. I suggest snooping around her site, I know you'll love it like I do!

Color Me Nude

It's been a rainy mess here in Cali and I am in major need of rain boots and an umbrella! I have been feeling better and I am eager to have a relaxing and fun weekend, but it is only Wed and I need to be dedicated to work. I wanted to share some eye candy with you. I love these images. They are so soft and pretty. I am really into nudes, soft pinks, and blues. Feels very Chloe to me. I would die for outfit in the first picture!

I have been eager to do more features of my favorite fashion bloggers on Sterling Style for a while. I had the honor of featuring Couture Carrie a few months ago and now I am thrilled to be spotlighting Liz from Late Afternoon. Every day I am excited to head over to Liz's blog to see what fabulous ensemble she has put together. She is a Bay Area fashion blogger from San Francisco and her style is uniquely her own. Liz deserves to become the next "It Girl" in fashion. Check out her modeling for Nasty Gal here.

Working Girl

{Banana Republic dress and purse, vintage belt, Michael Kors heels}
Dressing for work can be a pain when you have only a few minutes to shower, get pretty and pack your lunch. So, I am making more of an effort to get my clothes together at night. I have to dress fairly conservative at my work, but I have learned how I can stretch the limits to make the outfits more my style. This outfit looked much better at the beginning of the day (taken last week) as you can see by my wrinkles. I took this ultra comfortable dress from Banana Republic and used my favorite vintage belt to give it some shape. As always, I love pairing feminine and masculine together. The leather jacket gives the outfit some extra style. Then I threw on some mega heels from Michael Kors.

How do you show your personal style at work?
