More Hawaii Inspiration!

Here is another look for my Hawaii trip. I love the soft easy waves and the hippie head band. I wish I had purchased this one from Free People $14. Such a cute look and so chic for the beach!!

The Cut's Controversial Post

Recently, one of my favorite blogs, The Cut, posted an article “We Are the Thinnest” by Amy Odell. She cites a report that New York is the thinnest state in the US. New York’s population is only 47% overweight, whereas the rest of the nation is 67% overweight. I’m not that surprised. Since NY is the fashion Mecca of the world it has an overabundance of style setters and style setter “wannabes” who bring down the average. What is surprising is how Odell leans towards thin fanaticism.

This post evoked uproar from its readers, many felt that Odell was out of line. One reader wrote:

This is sickening. No, not the models or whatever but this article saying how all that matters is being thin, etc. I don't know if it was meant to be sarcastic but shame on you, Amy Odell, for putting such bullshit out into the universe.”-CALVINSHOW

I think we all know that New York is cut throat and being thin is still extremely important to the fashion industry. So, I am not offended by Odell’s arrogance. It’s the truth. I just hope that the rest of the nation values health and fitness and not the fashion industry’s version.

Get Cozy in Summer Sweats

Sweatpants have never been considered the epitome of style, but they definitely can look cool when worn well and to the right occasion. I am a California girl and love the So-Cal vibe that both of these sweatpants have. Free-City ($135.00) is a So-Cal phenomenon and have fun colors and look so cute paired with a little plain white t-shirt. I also love Blue and Cream ($140) they are very comfortable. I am partial to the "Bowery" version. I recommend these cute and stylish options for running errands or having a lazy day at home. Hey, no one said looking casual had to be frumpy and cheap. :)

Oh, to dream.....

I have never been one of those girls who dreamed about her lavish wedding and knew every last detail about how the entire day would turn out. I am the kind of girl that looks at beautifully crafted gowns and imagines how I would look coming down the isle. I recently came across this gown and my eyes lit up. It is a strapless tulle gown with a softly draped bodice. It is designed by Kenneth Pool and it is undoubtedly out of my price range. Hey, a girl can dream!

H&M; Spring 2009 Magazine Shots

H&M's Spring 2009 Magazine shots are gorgeous. I love how ethereal and dreamy they look. The pictures were photographed by Camilla Akrans (who has some amazing shots on Lundlund.com) and the model is the beautiful Anne Vyalitsyna. These photographs illustrate the perfect summer look. I am leaving for Hawaii in two days and this has given me some great new ideas. Thank you Free People for introducing me to these wonderful images.

Summer Braids- "The Mermaid" aka "The Fishtail"

With summer in full swing, I am always looking for new and creative ways to wear my hair. I like styles that look bohemian and undone (even if they take an hour to do). I was doing my weekly stroll through the Who What Wear blog and came across a post about summer braids. I instantly got excited because I actually have my hair done this way today. So, I had to share this trend with you. The “mermaid” or “fishtail” braids are super simple and look great messy and undone. They are pretty easy to achieve once you get the hang of it. The first time I saw this look was in Elle Girl Magazine in 2005 on Paris Hilton. I loved it so much I ripped it out and saved it in my fashion book. I am thrilled to see that this look has come back into style.
Free People, is one of my favorite lines for easy bohemian style. Their models always have the best beachy hair. I have added a video by Free People from YouTube that should help you achieve this fun summer braid.

My Favs!

I love Sofia Coppola's work, but overall this movie is not my favorite. However, you must watch it just to see the visuals and how yummy it is!
