Styling tips to achieve the Madewell look:

-Stick with the basics, but add quirky details like socks, glasses, and belts.
-Get the look on a budget by shopping for similar items on Esty or eBay.
-Add layers to your dress or skirt by wearing a light cardigan or wear a button down like a jacket and scrunch the sleeves
-Try prints like polka dots, stripes or floral.
-Add menswear to an otherwise girlie outfit. Throw on a pair of oxfords with socks or a bowler hat and carry a men's briefcase.

Don't be afraid to add your own unique flair; a Madewell girl thinks outside the box.

Great suggestions. I'd love to look vintage cool. Just don't have any oxfords.

I love how everything is so retro these days! It's funny. We always tease my dad about keeping fashions from 30 years ago, but now I wish my mom had kept some of her clothes! My sister and I would have a blast raiding her closet!

Such a cute 'how-to' idea :) I love Madewell, but not as much as I LOVE J.Crew ;)

This is fabulous. What a creative post. I love how you took the idea of the Madwell girl to provide affordable options. I know everyone says her line is affordable, but as you and I know, it is not. I thought this glamor article was interesting too. http://www.glamour.com/fashion/blogs/slaves-to-fashion/2010/02/alexa-chung-for-madewell-the-i.html

I agree with you Christina that some items are affordable while others are a little pricey. it can get expensive spending $168 on a dress every time. That's why I like to find similar items for less! :)

Madewell is my favorite! I do wish their dresses ran a big longer - is a problem for us tall girls!

I love Madewell, just as I love Alexa Chung's style, however I agree that cheaper alternatives are best as the prices are quite steep.

Thanks for sharing Taylor!
