Frequently Asked Questions

Why did you start the blog?
I started the blog back in 2009 as a way to share my love of fashion, shopping, and other inspirations.

What kind of camera do you use?
I use a Nikon D60 with a 50mm f/ 1.4 lens (I bought mine here)

Who takes your pictures?
Mostly my boyfriend, but sometimes my girlfriend Roxan or I use a remote control.

What do you do for a living?
Currently, I am working on the blog and a new site that will launch next year (www.theglitterguide.com). I am available for freelance, consulting, styling and speaking arrangements. Feel free to contact me if you are interested.

Can we exchange links?
I save my blogroll for sites I visit often. I also reserve the right to change it according to where I am visiting at the time.

Where did you get that piece of clothing?
Always check my post for a list of all items that I am wearing.

Why do you cook a lot of gluten free recipes, do you have Celiac disease?
I am lucky that I do not have Celiac or any other allergy. However, I do suffer from IBS and many times eating gluten free makes me feel better. Plus, my boyfriend and I like to be healthy and many times a gluten free or vegan recipe can be healthier. I try to mix it up with regular, gluten free, raw and vegan so there is something for everyone.

How do you stay in shape?
I love fitness. I do Crossfit around four days a week and then I try to run on days I don't do Crossfit. I always take a least one rest day.  I also try to eat everything in moderation and stick to lean meat, fish, veggies, and fruits when I am being really strict. Check out some info here.

I want to start a blog. Can you give me some tips?
Be true to who you are and your interests. Don't be afraid that you aren't stylish enough or don't have enough money. Just be true to who you are and have a voice. Write often and keep it short. Also, pictures are very important. I like blogs that are easy to read and have a point of view.

How can we interact, have conversations and ask questions?
I reply to many comments in the actual comment section. Or I interact on the Sterling Style Facebook and I reply to emails when ever I can.

How do you build a following?
My blog has not flown to the top like many others. I work hard and long on this blog, but I do it for me. I could wear other things or write about other things, but that wouldn't be me. If you are passionate and stay driven good things will come. I also would suggest getting involved in the blogging community.

How do you get sponsors?
There is no magic way. I just think you attract companies that like your style and you voice. You need a certain amount of traffic and a policy to make sure that you have control over your material. I like to work with business that match my style or interests.

Who is your favorite designer?
My favorite designer is Stella McCartney followed closely by Chloe. Stella understands women and the way their bodies move, feel and she knows how we want to look. She designs clothes that are fabulous, but also practical. Plus, she is animal friendly. Stella is you're reading this I would die to meet you!;)

How do you get your hair wavy like that?
My natural hair is wavy. I use a few products to make it more manageable. I use Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, Sunsilk Captivating Curls Gel (buy in bulk-they may be discontinued soon), and  Garnier Fructis Wonder Waves Spray
I also have a little 'How To" video here.

How can I break into the fashion industry?
I am certainly not that involved in the fashion industry, but I would say that reading magazines, watching runway shows, and doing internships is the best way. I loved interning at Women's Wear Daily in LA.
