The Crossfit Community

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

One of the biggest reasons why I continue to do Crossfit despite my ripped up hands, bruised collar bones, and aching muscles is the strong community! There is something about the mental and physical challenges of Crossfit that bring people together. The dynamic is one of shear competitiveness, but also support and encouragement. There are days when I break down and struggle to the point of tears and I can always count on the community to cheer me on and help me in any way that they can.

I use to spend hours at big gym by myself. I was so bored of  having to spend another twenty minutes on the treadmill or doing one more sit up. Now, I can go to Crossfit, mingle with my friends, work so hard that I want to collapse, and then feel invigorated the rest of the day. The other great thing is that many times my work outs are only twenty minutes or less and with my schedule that is a life saver!

Do you have a work out community?

Wowowow! Kudos to you girl :)! I don't actually have a "work-out" community, but I do go biking around where I live and do yoga every morning!

You are a CHAMP <3

you are so right! I see myself slacking when it's just me by myself trying to work-out but when I'm with my work-out budy (best friend) we are so much more motivated and it's so much more fun!!

I love that first picture of you. So strong! It's funny because I do have a kind of workout community.
My work is associated with the gym that is on the ground floor and every season they offer group personal training sessions to employees.

It's two days a week but the trainers work us hard and push us to our individual limits. It's a great way to work out and meet people from all around the company.

You are so right, CrossFit is very much about community! Where else can you workout to find everyone in the gym cheering you on to finish or hit your PR? What other gym will plan social events either at the gym or elsewhere? Surround yourself with positive people, and you'll become positive and self confident.

That's great Taylor, I LOVE that you have a local workout community. I am one of those gals that sticks to either fun classes, or workout videos, so I suppose it kind of lacks that community feel! It's fun to work out though.

That is so awesome! I really wish I had the motivation to work out :/ But I don't want to go to a gym because I'm shy and don't want people watching (not that they would be) XD

You know I love this. There are two big reasons I love Crossfit and you mentioned them here: Short, intense workouts and supportive comrades. Only people who have done Crossfit can understand what it's like to get to the end of a workout. You are SO STRONG! Great post!

Operation Bootcamp is my community! I'm an instructor now and have been for over a year. It's a 30 day fitness and nutrition program that works out at 6 am 4 mornings a week, the workouts are 45 mins long incorporating cardio and strength training with lots of fun, enouraging instructors! Love my OBC family! :)

Thanks ladies! Even without a community getting out and burning cals feels good!

Terra- you go girl!

closet fashionista -don't be shy girl. You have to get out there and try it.

Woah... I don't know how much weight that is, but that is super impressive! I live across the street from a Crossfit gym and see them all the time. It's a little intimidating but maybe I should go check it out ...

That's fantastic! I'm starting to make friends at the gym. Most of the women are older than me, but I don't mind. They're really inspiring! I love exercising in a group...it get's really mundane alone, like you said.

Uh I wish I did crossfit. As a student, I can't really afford to go to the crossfit gyms and I don't have the equipment. But I do workout a lot with my classmates. We do a lot of sports like racquetball, running, tennis, basketball even tonight we're going sailing. It always fun to workout with people. You end up playing 3 hours of racquetball and don't even realize it.

Whoah, you're a ninja! That's amazing. I've never heard of crossfit, but it looks and sounds intense. My favorite workout is yoga and I feel the same way about the sense of community that comes with it. It's so much more fun that way than working out on my own. Have a great weekend!

Um, lady, you are officially my hero! I had to pick my eyes up off the floor! Wow -- so ambitious, lovely and strong. Currently, my workout includes walking up and down a flight of stairs about 10-15 times a day, as my studio is on the bottom floor. It's unfortunate! I really need to exercise -- you are truly inspiring!

Hope you are having a fabulous weekend,
xoxo

you're so strong! obviously your workouts are working for you; you're in fantastic shape! what are your daily routines?

I attend a local gym/studio that offers realllllly fun workout classes; jamaican dance, hip hop, "hot body pilates", zumba, it keeps things very interesting! and makes working out so much more fun.

Love this! And that's probably why in addition to my laziness, I do not workout-no community! I wish I could love exercising like you do, you look so damn good!!

Great post! I actually learned a lot about Cross Fit from your blog. There is a Cross Fit in my area, but the prices are too steep for me right now.
However, I do agree having a workout community is the best thing. I belong to a gym, but would definitely love having a group of people as a support network.
Thanks for sharing this on your blog!
