Mexican Winter

Jacket-Vintage c/o LA Vintage, Sweater & Top-H&M, Jeans-c/o James Jeans, Shoes-Steven by Steve Madden, Clutch-American Apparel, Ring-YSL, Short Necklace-c/o EmersonMade, Long Necklace-Need Supply, Lipstick-M.A.C. Impassioned
I love Mexican food. I could eat it every day. At least once a week my boyfriend I find ourselves in front of a heaping pile of salty chips, guacamole and a gigantic burrito--so big that the waiter often gives mine to my boyfriend by mistake.  This beautiful wall makes me yearn for a warm Mexican vacation. I want to throw on my bikini and sip margaritas. It's too bad it was insanely cold this weekend and instead of fruity drinks and warm sun I had purple toes, but hey at least I got to wear my favorite leopard coat.

Lipstick Lady

"Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick."-Gwyneth Paltrow

I like lipstick.

To say I have an obsession may be a understatement. This is my current collection- ranging from light pink to bright orange and everything in between. As far back as I can remember I've been allured by the beauty of bold colorful lips. Even in middle school there was hardly a day that I went without my L'oreal "coffee bean" (mud brown) lipstick. It was hideous, but I stood out.

My lipstick has come to be almost a trademark for me. I leave it on coffee cups, pens, I stain the inside of my handbags with it, smudge it on clothes, and I often have it on my teeth. My friends like to joke about the insane amount I carry with me at all times (proof here). I even have been known to wear it at the gym...I know, I'm one of those girls.

speaking of lipstick...here are a few fun shots from the Bay Area Blogger Meet Up in San Francisco last night. I had a great time. I got to ride up with a new friend Lisa who made the two hour car ride a blast! I'm wearing M.A.C.'s Impassioned.

Let's start a trend on Twitter. Since so many of you love lipstick or are getting inspired to try bold colors-let's share photos of your lipstick(s) on Twitter. Use #lipsticklove

Cake Batter Crispy Treats

I think I'm having birthday party withdrawals. My celebration last Sunday was such a blast that I've been craving sweet festive treats all week long. I've also missed baking and (this chocolate eclair cake was my last food post!). I've been so busy with Glitter Guide and trying to save every penny that my baking passion has been put on hold. But, I hope to carve out time once a week to get back in the groove. While technically this recipe isn't really "baking", it was a good start.

I'm such a sucker for anything with colorful sprinkles. I made these more for the look of them rather than the taste, but I ended up with a pretty and scrumptious dessert....too scrumptious actually. I had to pack them up for my boyfriend to take to work so I would stop snacking on them!

Ingredients:
3 tablespoons butter
1 10-ounce bag of mini marshmallows
1/4 cup yellow cake mix
6 cups rice krispies cereal
1 1.75-ounce container of sprinkles

Directions
Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat and add marshmallows. Stir until they begin to melt, adding in cake mix one spoonful at a time so its combined. Stir in cereal so it is completely coated with marshmallow mixture. Sprinkle in half of the sprinkles and mix. Press into a baking dish (any size will do) and top with remaining sprinkles. Let sit for about 30 minutes before cutting. I find spraying a knife with nonstick spray helps to cut them.

Plain and Simple

Jacket-H&M, Top- vintage Ralph Lauren (worn here), Jeans-c/o James Jeans, Shoes-Steven by Steve Madden, Handbag-Rebecca Minkoff c/o Stefani Bags, Sunglasses-Ray-Bans

You would think that being the founder of Glitter Guide I would always dress bold, colorful, and bedazzling. But to me being "glittery" means being confident in your own skin and knowing when to keep it simple. I've never subscribed to the notion of "more is more". Don't get me wrong I love decadence and glitz, but I also like minimal and easy. There are times when I go out with very little makeup, my hair messy from the day before, and no jewelry. It feels good to care about what I'm wearing, but not enough to fuss over it: plain and simple.

Girl Crush: Jenna Lyons

Jacket-Old Abercombie & Fitch, Top-H&M, Jeans-c/o James Jeans, Rain Boots-c/o Shop Adorn, Bangles &, Belt-Boyfriend's, Readers- Forever 21, Handbag-c/o Botkier, Lipstick-Maybelline 515 "Coral Crush"
The never ending rain this weekend made me want to stay cuddled in my pajamas and watch old Woody Allen movies, but I had to resist the temptation and brave the wet weather. When I'm getting dressed I usually ask myself, "What am I feeling inspired by today?" Often the answer is Jenna Lyons. I know I'm not alone in my admiration of Jenna's style, we all seem to be captivated by her. It's refreshing to be inspired by a woman who is wildly successful, talented, creative and has a family. I'm particularly interested in how she mixes masculine and feminine pieces together.

 How Jenna describes her style:
"There is always something borrowed from the boys and something borrowed from grandma. There is always some sort of tailoring and a more structured element, and then a piece that I might have found in my grandma's attic. I like to pair something a little too sweet and sugary with something more tailored."- Jenna Lyons (Huffington Post)

My Favorite Day of the Year

Why is today my favorite day of the year? Because, it's my birthday! I feel like I've been celebrating my birthday all month (that's the way to do it, right?!). I've been such a lucky girl I almost feel guilty celebrating this weekend, almost. Looking back I remember wishing for the weirdest things on my birthday. I've always been fond of the rain and I use to ask for it on my big day (I'm definitely having a wet day this year!).

Here are a few things that made me smile on my birthday week:
-Channeling my version of  Betty Crocker in the kitchen
-Arranging some of my favorite products for display.
-My new Botkier handbag and it's contents: lipsticks, Moschino eyeglasses, Ray-Bans, necklace c/o EmersonMade, sequin Coach pouch (a gift from the lovely Ely), and my HOBO wallet.
-My new rain boots c/o Shop Adorn
-Looking at a picture of a five-year old me and noticing that I still like wearing red bows in my hair!

Bags and Bloggers

{image above via Mr. Newton and Harper's Bazaar}

While in New York I visited Tanya from Botkier in the NoLIta boutique. I'm a big fan of Botkier handbags (evidence here). The store was full of pretty details and unquestionably gorgeous bags. I had to snap a photo of the Confetti System decorations for my fellow Glitter Girls! The Botkier team is so supportive of my blog and treated me to a new handbag (stay tuned). I also attended the IFB conference where I spent time with Meghan, Jenni, Christine, Kristina and Christina. The highlight was getting my photo snapped my Mr.Newton. I'm so surprised when people actually like my outfits. I just dress in what makes me feel good and the fact that it's appreciated is an added bonus.

Ladies Who Lunch

{Coat, Scarf and Mittens-H&M, Top-Nordstrom, Fake Fur Vest-Nasty Gal, Pants- Urban Outfitters, Shoes- Kelsi Dagger c/o Moxsie}

The best part of going to New York was meeting so many wonderful people! Don't get me wrong, all the parties and conferences were a blast, but meeting my online friends was special. I was asked to go to lunch with three of my favorite bloggers: Beth, Jessica, and Lucy! We gabbed about social media, outfit pictures, Tumblr, and Fashion Week. After lunch Laurel snapped a little photo shoot of us. It was so cold my teeth hurt. Luckily, you all warned me to wear layers!
