Messy Wavy Hair Tutorial

This hair tutorial is not about perfection--that's what makes it easy. It's all about messy imperfect waves. It's my go-to hairstyle. You don't have to use a curling iron but it helps give you that extra curl (especially if your hair is naturally straight).

You'll need:
-Curling wax or cream
-Volumizing spray
-1" curling iron
-Hairspray

Directions:
-Towel dry your hair.
-Without brushing hair (it removes your natural curl) scrunch damp hair with wax/cream.
-Blow dry hair with a concentrator or a diffuser  (I left mine a little damp in the video but dry works best).
-Pin hair up to get at multiple layers (I do about 4 layers from bottom to top).
-Open a 1" curling iron and wrap hair around the curling iron (you may need a glove) and hold it for 15-18 seconds.
-Hairspray and fluff hair with fingers.
-If it's too curly run your fingers through the curls to get loose waves.

Great tutorial! But why don't you clamp the curling iron? I'm guessing this will make your curls too tight ...

Cutest tuturial video! I love your hair like that. I have super curly hair, so maybe I'll try this out and it'll be a less I-look-like-a-tornado-blew-threw-town kind of look.

I do the same thing with my hair and found that when if I comb my hair in the shower, its tangle free and ready for curls!

Love the video! I have naturally wavy hair, so this is actually what I do most mornings.

I would like to point out though that your blow dryer attachment in the video isn't a diffuser, it's a concentrator. The diffuser is the giant, round attachment with little prongs sticking out of it.

Angelique,

Thank you. I've never heard of that before so I always called it a diffuser. Thanks for the tip.

Everyone: It's a concentrator not a diffuser on the blow dryer. :)

If any of you try this please share pics on the Sterling Style Facebook. I would love to see them!

I have a question- whenever I put styling products (gel, cream, etc) in my hair to help the wave stay, my blonde hair looks much darker...any advice?

I think you've just made me decide to go back to the sideswept bang. I've grown mine out but have been thinking of getting a longer sidesweep and this solidified it!

Thanks for the tutorial! I've been desperate to have curly/wavy hair lately, so I will have to give this a try.

Taylor,
You are the BEST. I cannot wait to try this. Going to test it out in the morning. My hair is insanely long right now as are my bangs, so hopefully I won't look too much like a shagadellic dog for work:) If I look as cute as you do, promise I'll tweet a pic.

Thank you again!

Supercute! I have similar hair to yours and think I could pull this off. What styling products did you use?

Like the others said, this video is perfect! My only question is what brands/names of products do you prefer? Thanks, xoxoxoxoxoxo
