Tucked in Tucker

Dress (worn as a top)-Tucker for Target, Skirt-T by Alexander Wang, Shoes-Steve Madden (similar style), Clutch-Topshop, Ring-Forever 21, Necklace-c/o Kenneth Cole, Sunglasses-Karen Walker

I'm ready for spring. The weather in California has been so incredible I forget it's only January. It's easy for me to dress for warm weather. It's what I know. However, I just booked tickets to New York in February and I'm not prepared to bare the cold. I'm really going to have to get creative with my wardrobe and avoid the urge to shop. I would love to run around looking just like this

I'm  really excited to go to the  Lucky's FABB conference in and hear all the amazing speakers (Jenna Lyons!). Plus, I'm going to be staying with the fabulous Beth Jones! I can't wait!

If you tips or links on what I should wear to NYC post to comments! I would love to see your suggestions.

I love Tucker. I own a few tops from there and I just can't get enough of them. Also, I'm so jealous you're going to hear Jenna Lyons speak. She's incredible.

Aw, yay! You are going to NYC after all!! How absolutely exciting. I almost booked my tickets too because the flights from SF were such a steal, but once I looked at the hotel prices I knew I couldn't do it :( I'm still crossing my fingers that I'll get lucky and will somehow make it out!

The weather here has been incredibly gorgeous. I hope it stays sunny for a while :)

This is such a beautiful blouse, I'm loving the trend of sheer ones for summer. Your Californian weather looks so warm and sunny, I'm slightly jealous at the moment!

Wow, have an amazing time in NY, the conference sounds really interesting.
My favourite outfit of yours has to be this one: http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=167287876614883&set=a.151077041569300.29160.128717577138580
so maybe something similar...

Have a lovely week.

That sounds like an amazing trip! How exciting!! You will have to take as many pictures as you can.
I've never been to New York so I am not any help.. maybe chunky knits?!

P.s. I love this outfit. Your shoes are amazing!

PS: Can we please talk about how stunning you look? GEEZUS. That blouse was iffy for me when I saw it in the store but it looks way too good on you!

I Love Tucker! I really like how you styled it with the black.

Bring things you can layer. Pashmina scarfs are great and add warmth without out all the bulk... cardigans, tights... and fur is fun :)

I love your booties and how you wore that Tucker dress as a top -- so cute!

I love when things are worn unexpectedly, like your dress as a blouse!! Also I feel the best way to dress for new york's cold weather is to layer because it's cold outside but there's heat blasting indoors!!

I love this outfit!! The colors of that blouse (er, dress!) are so pretty! Loving the booties, too! The "what to wear in NY" inspiration picture is gorgeous, but you cannot run around like that in February!! I live on the east coast and that's more of a November look! ;) PARKA! HAT! MITTS! But you could definitely wear that under a coat! So pretty.

Layers are crucial for the cold!! Also the perfect pair of boots that keep you warm, are stylish and are easy to walk in (especially if you will be shopping).

Check out my latest post for how I dress for our Canadian winters!

I love that Tucker dress, I almost got the blouse-version but put it down and when I went back a few days later it was gone...MAJOR SAD FACE! NYC is freezing right now! A Burberry Shearling coat would be great (that's on my wish/dream list at least) Have a great trip, I look forward to reading your posts!

NYC in February can be mercilessly cold or surprisingly mild. Layers are key! My uniform has been skinny jeans, combat boots, long tees, my Rick Owens-esque leather jacket from Vince, and my Mackage coat when it's cold (the Vince is soooo thin that it fits under my Mackage perfectly).

Even for a night on the town, I leave the heels at home (unless you're going to, say, the Boom Boom Room or Avenue). This was difficult to get used to at first, but the chicest girls always seem to be wearing flat boots.

Yay for NYC, but you are going to FREEZE! It is sooo cold here in Feb...it's only January and its 0 degrees out today (I'm in CT, not NY, but close enough...haha)
Just wear lots of awesome layers :)

Julie said...

Hey Taylor,

Your NY friend here...it's FREEZING right now with lots of snow! Maybe things will change in a few weeks but if you plan on being outside at all, wear layers, bring boots, scarves, hats that cover your ears, gloves. Anything to keep warm. Trust me, it's never fun being in NYC and cold! Oh, and tissues because no one can deny a runny nose on a cold day. Love you!

*Have fun in NY!* Bring lots of different scarves to add a little fun.

Alison Kinsey said...

i really love how the necklace goes with the dress! your look inspires me to get more flowy, billowy tops such as that (even though it's actually a dress) :)

it is sooo cold in the northeast taylor! i hope you have a heavy jacket, you will need it! think 'layers' and stylish boots. i am so excited to fly to san diego next week!

Those booties will serve you well in NYC as long as it's with tights, pants or leggings. Jenna Lyons? So jealous!!

I am all for easy breezy blouses at the moment! Even more fun that yours is actually a dress :)

NYC tips:
- welly boots are not actual winter boots and do NOT keep you warm.
- Scarves, hats and gloves in all variations actually make the cutest accessories and are definitely needed at (almost) all times
- something to put on your lips so they won't dry out. That's probably one of the worst things
- a big bag to store all the winter goods once you get inside

Hope that helps! x

This weather has been unreal! I spent sunday in santa cruz and soaked up as much sun as possible, so awesome. Love your dress worn as a top. I have a different Tucker for Target dress that I'll have to try that with. Lovely post and good luck in NYC, brrrr I'm not accustomed to such ferociously cold weather so I have no tips to offer :(

Love this outfit!
I am a lucky NYer who is escaping the cold and leaving for Cali tomorrow!

When you visit, boots are a must have! It's super slushy and gross on NYC streets.

My big three of NYC winter fashion are boots, scarves and tights!

Have a great trip!

Gorgeous! So creative to convert the dress into a top. (I ADORE the print). I always try to do this too, but there are definitely unmistakable and awkward bumps in the pants or skirt that I'm tucking the dress into. How do you manage to make it look so natural?
