A New Chapter

Every once and a while a door closes in our lives, but luckily another door always opens. I was laid off from my job this week. I worked there for almost three years and while I have a lot of interests outside of my work it was always a huge priority to me. To have that change in the blink of an eye is without question difficult, but I feel optimistic about my future. While I prepare for a new career I have more time with my friends and family and I have time to focus on things that I am passionate about. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me. Your support means a lot.

Here are a few things that I appreciate now that I am home more:

1. I have ample time to read my favorite magazines for inspiration. I even have time to decorate and finish lingering projects.
2. I can find a way to modernize the vintage dress that has been begging for my attention for weeks.
3. My coin bank to save for a pair of new shoes may come in handy sooner than later.
4. I can sit and put my feet up. I have to admit it feels pretty good.

*Many people are not able to read this text for some reason. I am working on the problem. Not sure how to fix it. Thank you for commenting even if you can't read this! You all are awesome!

so sorry to hear the news. i, too, was laid off a few months ago. in spite of the headaches i had to deal with at the unemployment office, i felt so recharged! i read books, watched my favorite shows and even started my own blog! i just had this new appreciation for life and the beauty that surrounded me. luckily, i was fortunate enough to land a job about 2 months later (and in this economy!) and it has been such a welcome change from my previous job (which i was very unhappy with).

i wish you well and hope you find something even better soon!

First, I wish you nothing but luck as you pursue the next phase of your life. Second, for whatever it is worth, being laid off 2 1/2 years ago was the BEST thing that ever happened to our family! We have all learned to appreciate life & "things" more. A good lesson for all of us. Again, good luck!

By the way, LOVE your blog, read everyday. http://idontwearjeans.blogspot.com/

SO SORRY about losing your job. This seriously SUCKS and it's so upsetting. I'm sure you are feeling awful and I know the one time I got laid off, I even felt almost, ashamed... I know that might sound weird, but I, like you, gave my job my all and to get what in return? Exactly. That said, thanks for sharing.

Anyways, GOOD FOR YOU for being soo optimistic and positive and turning lemons into lemonade ;)

Wishing you TONS of luck in the hunt for your new job. *GOOD VIBES*

Taylor,

First let me say that I am sorry about the job. But I think your optimism is dead on. With every new beginning comes some other beginnings end. You are so smart, driven, ambitious and beautiful (woah, I feel like I know you based on your blog) and you will be on to the next bigger and better thing in no time at all. Who knows, maybe you can take your creativity and hugely successful blog to the next level? Maybe a cute boutique? A home decorating service? You definitely have the talent.

I was unemployed this time last year, and it was pretty sweet. There is so much to do for the holidays and being able to actually relax and enjoy it is the best!

Have a great Thanksgiving!

well i am sorry to hear that the rug was pulled form under your feet, but glad to hear you are staying positive! my husband was laid off last year without any warning, but he said walking out the door he felt released. the lay off allowed us to move to san francisco from sacramento (hurray!), and he loves his job! god works in unexpected ways!

I'm sorry about the layoff. I was laid off for the first time after two years on the job then rehired six weeks later only to be laid off again a year later. Finally found a new job only to be laid off two months later. Just offered a new position at my last job but I turned it down. After three layoffs in two years I learned that I can only rely on myself to accomplish my goals and so now I work for myself. Scary but exciting. Good luck in your next step.

So so so sorry to hear about your job. I was laid off 2 years ago around this time. And I LOVED it. I had the opportunity to spend it with family and friends & do things that sometimes slips away during the holiday season. During that time it also allowed me to see what I really wanted for my future/career. I got the opportunity to move to LA & pursue my dream. Best thing that happened to me. You have a lot of talent, & that plus your positive vibe will take you far.
Best Wishes!
xoxo.

Hey Taylor,
I can now read your post so I thought I would comment again.

Congratulations on remaining so positive despite this huge change in your life which has come without warning. Seize every opportunity you get (I'm sure there'll be plenty!) and enjoy your down time, it's not often we get to put our feet up without feeling like things 'must' be done. Enjoy spending this time on those unfinished projects - I for one can't wait to see the modernised vintage dress.

With your numerous talents and hardworking attitude which we can all see from your blog, you'll get a new (even better?) career than before!
Can't wait to hear what happens next...
All the best.

Sending you so much love and luck... it's weird, and we never know why things happen the way that they do, but someday (probably soon) there will be that magical moment when you'll back and go "a-ha! That's why!"

There was a time, not too long ago, when a job I loved turned into an awful situation. I was so sad because I had high hopes and loved so many people I worked with. But someone said to me, you should send your boss a thank you note. This is going to lead you to that 'something better' - and quicker than you thought.

Think of the impact you have on so many people DAILY. And that's ALL YOU. Sky's the limit, mama.

With love,
