Wedding Planning: Do What's Right For You

Planning a wedding takes a lot of time and energy. I always knew this, but somehow it never really registered till a few months ago. There are a ton of women who run their own business, have a very hectic life and can still plan an amazing wedding on top of it all. I've realized that I'm not that woman. I need a little help.

I've done a lot, don't get me wrong. I've got most of the big things taken care of. However, there are a million details that need attending to. I just can't seem to set aside my work (it's like my baby) long enough to truly get things taken care of. It's not that my wedding isn't something I'm looking forward to. On the contrary, it's something I'm very passionate about. It's more that planning a wedding and trying to grow a new business has been challenging.

At first, I decided I wanted to plan the entire thing. I figured I could make this a very fashionable DIY affair. While there will be plenty of DIY ideas at my wedding, I decided I needed more help. I finally had to admit to myself that I couldn't do this alone. This was hard, I was still ambitiously dreaming that I was going to throw this fabulous wedding all on my own (with the help of my family, of course).

Luckily, I realized that I have to do what's right for me and that maybe what's right is asking for more help. My family and I are still planning many of the details, but I hired Jacin of Lovely Little Details to help make my day extra special. Sometimes you just have to admit to yourself that you can't do it all, and that's okay!

love this post. i got married in february and i did, in fact, do it all myself. and while i would have changed a THING about the day, i do wonder if some of the stress i felt the day before could have been lifted if i had delegated a little more... you know... or something. but SO true, you HAVE to do what is right for you - you can't do too much or what other people want.. cause you'll only get burned out. BUT, at the end of the day, you still end up married to your best friend... so it all works out :)

I completely understand! I am getting married in a month and it is getting crazy getting everything together. Luckily we are having a very small intimate wedding (18 guests) and that makes it very much easier on me and the planning. I am having a lot of things handmade for me from Etsy, and that makes it easier too and it is still makes the wedding unique!

Can't wait to see your wedding pics!!

Good for you. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and ask for help!! The weeks before your wedding day should be spent happy and somewhat relaxed... not totally stressed out.

You should do a post on here or Glitter Guide about wedding planners in different cities with similar aesthetics.

I think it takes a lot of guts and courage to admit that - and I think you'll be SO much happier you did! It will be a perfect day because you're marrying you're soulmat and all the details will be lovely no matter what!

Good for you! I have been considering hiring a day-of coordinator. I'm still doing the planning because I'm going super simple...plus I'm not near as busy as you (seriously...you're amazing), but it'll make me feel so much better to have someone calling the shots on the day. I'm sure your wedding will be an incredibly wonderful and special event! Good luck with everything!

Good for you Taylor! I know what you mean...I hired a wedding coordinator (especially since we are having a destination wedding) and it makes things so much easier. I know you will be a beautiful bride and I can't wait to hear all about it from Julie!

Great advise - knowing when you need help (and asking for the right kind) is a big part of embracing adulthood - in my opinion at least. :-) Good for you!

Having a wedding planner was one of the best decisions we made for our big day. There is nothing more wonderful than just completely relaxing on the day of and looking forward to seeing your soon to be hubby's face when you walk down the aisle towards him. Embrace the help, you will be so glad you did.

it's hard to face that you (and when I say you, I mean everyone) aren't super woman! It's definitely okay to ask for help , even if it is painful to do so. Bottom line, your wedding will be the most important day of your life --- why stress out over things that don't need to be stressed about?! You did the right choice! Can't wait to see pictures!

I csn't imagine planning my wedding all by myself- what a daunting task! I'd definitely hire someone, or at least get a bunch of people to help. Glad to see I'm not alone in thinking this!

You totally made the right call! I went into my wedding day with the same mentality you had, and to be frank I sort of gave up in the end and let everyone else take over. Looking back I regret that, because little things that to other people seem silly, such as the way napkins are folded, bothers me. A professional planner/stylist would have understood these things. My relatives...not so much. I really wish I had hired someone to help me :)

Cant wait to see your big day!!

My husband and I planned our wedding ourselves because we were on a budget and don't have family nearby. Although everyone who attended said we had a lovely wedding on the day I kept getting distracted by all the details I realized I had missed or that hadn't turned out the way I wanted. I wish I had some help and someone to take care of the details on my wedding day so I wasn't setting the tables in my wedding dress, which totally happened.
