Avocado Smoothie

I love avocados. It's fun to find new ways to incorporate them into recipes. You might have noticed I've been on a smoothie kick (here and here). So naturally when I came across Honest Fare's recipe for an avocado smoothie I had to try it. I made a few tweaks to her recipe. I prefer to use honey over agave nectar so I added a bit of honey and less agave. I also added half of a banana to make it even more creamy and sweet. It turned out great and was a nice change from my kale and spinach smoothie.

Note: I did not throw in the avocado with the skin. I squeezed it into the blender.

This looks SO good! Do you use smoothies as a breakfast / recover drink after working-out? I'm just wondering when the best time would be to drink up because it looks really filling, but i wouldn't want to miss a meal ;)

PS cute straw!

Whaaat?! Avocado smoothie?! I LOVE avocados and I LOVE smoothies but i wouldn't have thought to put them together... with apple, honey, and banana though it actually sounds like it would be pretty perfect. Now I just need to find myself a striped straw so it will look as cute as yours... xx

I'm an avocado lover myself. And like you, I will find any excuse to incorporate them into everything! This sounds very tasty and I like the addition of the apple and banana. I bet that made it taste even more amazing.

That looks so yummy. I know a lot of ppl are probably thinking that avocado wouldn't taste that good with other ingredients that are sweet but there is this yogurt place by my house that has an avocado flavor that I LOVE!!!! It was totally unexpected but its one of the best frozen yogurts that I have ever had.....yummmm

I am hesitant. But, I do love avocados ... I bet you the apple does the trick to make it fruity. I will trust your word :)!! XO!

Ohhh I will definitely try this. I will eat an avocado in any form. I am not a fan of honey or agave (can only do sweet when it's dessert time) but I think the sweetness in the fruit would do just fine :)

Thanks for sharing! Love your healthy recipe suggestions.

Erika

I have to try this recipe! I'm not a big fan of avocado as is but I know it's really healthy, so I'm always looking for some good recipes that incorporate it, and I think this is one of those. Besides, it's easy too, so I know I'll be able to make it! :P

My friend makes avocado margaritas! They're so delicious. Give it a try -- add avocado to the traditional marg recipe.

I love avocados too!! One thing you should really try them with is strawberries. The flavors come together so wonderfully. I don't know about in a smoothie, but I've just cut them up into same size pieces and added just a little honey for a salad and have also put that on bread for a super tasty sandwich. Try it!

Ooh, I will have to try that! I've thought about adding avacado (rather than spinach or kale, ha!) but I haven't actually tried it yet!
