In February we'll have lived in our cottage for a year! I can't believe how fast time has gone by. It feels like yesterday that we were desperate to get this place. Not only does it feel like we just moved in, it looks that way (at least in some areas). We're lucky to have two bedrooms in our tiny cottage, but the layout has caused some decorating challenges. I'm eager to get the spare room finished so I can use it as an office and stop working at the kitchen table all day. We've had to squeeze all our dressers into the spare room and closet. The plan is to turn it into a dressing room/office. While that may sound chic it's going to be crowded. The other issue is the four windows taking up all my wall space. I can't hang all my favorite paintings (but the views make up for it). Despite these challenges I'm determined to make head way on this room. Here are a few tips I plan to use to create a glamorous workspace:

1. Get inspired
Always be on the lookout for inspiration. Whether it's online, in a magazine or out in the real world. Take notice of what you like and make a list.
2. Presentation is everything
Use trays, bowls and boxes to showcase your knick-knacks and supplies. Like this checkered tray from Haus Interior or this milk glass compote from Octavia Brown.
3. Add a little scent
A nice smelling candle creates a welcoming atmosphere and is a pretty decorating piece. My favorites are from Dipytique and Kobo.
4. Fresh Flowers
Flowers give life to any room and are known to increase happiness. I love bunches of peonies, hydrangeas, and tulips.
5. Buy pretty stationery
Stock up on delightful stationery. Not only does it look lovely on your desk, but a beautiful handwritten note is a rare and special thought these days. I like Kate Spade and Paper Source.

that's a lot of shoes in that pic :P i love the first office! i sit in a huge empty room with white walls and high cieling and there is NOTHING! chair and a desk that creeps up the wall. anything decorative for the house (or even supplies) is too much money where i live in Brazil, i hope to find decorations in the US that can "travel well" in a suitcase :D

Wow, I so wish my work space looked like this! I love interior design and architecture. I'm snowed in today, so maybe I'll do some online shopping for a new desk chair and other items...

Beautiful inspiration pics! I've had that dressing room with the antlers and the settee in my saved files forever. I can't remember where it was from. I also always love a ghost chair and peonies. Those never fail. :)

it's weird, my office space is definitely the area that gets the most decor attention. stationary, lighting, separated compartments... i love it all!

One can never have enough fresh flowers. Bunches of peonies are my favorite too! I want to start doing inspiration boards like that just to keep track of everything. xo
