Delicious Miss Dahl

sophie dahl
Sophie dahl

In the spirit of my domestic goddess week I wanted to share my admiration for the lovely Sophie Dahl. Years ago I remember laying in bed with my mother watching Nigella Lawson cook up the most decadent and delicious meals. While I found her food to be mesmerizing I still never felt inclined to go whip it up myself. Now that I am older things have changed and Sophie Dahl is my new Nigella Lawson. She has come under some criticism, but I disagree with the haters. I admire her career. Sophie was a model known for her voluptuous curves. She was unique and a relief from the skinny waifs of the 90s. I love her simple recipes and charming personality. Nigella will always be my favorite, but there is room in my heart for Sophie too.

Stay tuned for an awesome giveaway later today!

unfortunately for me this is the first i've ever seen of miss sophie dahl - but FORTUNATELY for me it won't be the last! she's absolutely adorable and incredibly inviting. I especially love how imperfect her dessert was, still looking absolutely delicious. love it!

She's so cute! I remember my mom watching Julia Childs when I was a kid. It's so funny how things like this take us our childhood.

Nigella's first TV show in the states was in '96. How could you have possibly "grown up" watching her? Stick to the facts, sister.

Had no idea she's into coooking now, gotta check her recipes ASAP! :o)

I meant Nigella's first show in the US was in 2006. How did you watch her growing up? Unless you lived in Europe?

Anonymous- 2006 really?? I swear I was younger? Maybe we were able to get it before? That can't be. I was in college. I must look into this. I could be wring, but I swear my mom and I use to watch it when I was in high school??

Taylor Sterling said...

Oh maybe 2002. I read that it was on Style channel around 2001-2002. Which makes a little more sense.

I loved reading this post! I adore both Nigella and Sophie - I've been watching Nigella's new kitchen series every week and I think I might have a bit of a girl crush on her... we don't get Sophie's show here so I've been watching bits of it on the internet, she's really fantastic!

Oh my lordy, that pudding looks lush! When I first pressed play, I thought "urgh, rhubarb" but 2 mins later, my mouth was watering and I was a convert!

I love Nigella's recipes, however she's rather irritating. Sophie doesn't seem to have the same annoying factor!

Think I'll go and have a mooch on Amazon for her cookbook...

I love sophie! i have this book & it's got some really great ideas & photos.

She's also a pretty good writer (following in the steps of her grandfather Roald..), & she has written for Vogues US and British. She has an ability to write in a nostalgic way that doesn't come across as cliched.
