Going Tribal

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Old Gap Cargo jacket, Forever 21 dress, Urban Outfitters skirt underneath, Asos boots, Forever 21 jewelery, armor ring eBay, Marc by Marc Jacobs handbag
The tribal trend for this spring and summer is a great excuse to pile on the jewelry and other accessories. I found this little tunic dress at Forever 21 the other day and thought it would look great with my over the knee boots. I mean literally this dress is little, probably because it is meant to wear as a tunic over pants, but I wanted it as a dress. It hardly covered my unmentionables. So, I had to play with ways to keep it rated G. I tried the dress tucked into a skirt. It was pretty cute, but the fabric was a little thick and bulky. So, I decided I will just keep the skirt on under the dress for a little more coverage. You can hardly tell it isn't part of the dress. I also wanted to wear a cargo jacket with this look. I would have loved a longer cargo jacket that came below the dress and hard oversized pockets, but sometimes you just have to work with what you have!
I am really enjoying the over the knee boots from Asos. They were on sale and worth every penny. I can wear them all the way up or fold them down for a different look. My armor ring was fun to wear too. It is funky and really stood out. I love bold accessories. Don't be afraid to play around. I almost added a long necklace to layer with my short one and that would have been fine. Yes, there are style rules, but rules are meant to be broken.

Check out my past tribal trend here

I also wanted to say thank you to Tayler (love the name) from Big Hair and Bikinis for emailing me this surprise portrait of me. It is flattering to have someone draw you and she does an amazing job. Check out her blog for more blogger portraits and great fashion and style!

I was also equally flattered that Sugar Darling Vintage posted this about me. So sweet and I feel the same about her! Post about that later this week!

the 2nd skirt underneath is a great idea! Being tall makes normal length dresses look like scandalous minis on me, so I usually wear thick tights underneath. But this is a great alternative~ must try it out :)

Thanks Taylor!

I bought that dress last season and still think it's one of the best things I've bought at F21. I agree about its length, but the fabric, design, and gold piping are great for F21 standards. Do you agree?

Oh, and I love the green jacket over it.

That's a fabulous illustration of you... I love it!

The dress is pretty and I know what you're saying about doing a rated G... that's why I can't resist wearing tights even here in sunny Manila... most of my dresses are too short. Hahaha!

Have a great day! xoxo

i love the jewelry you wore with that outfit Taylor! super pretty. by the way, i hope you don't mind me sharing this tip. if you want to get rid of those blue outlines around your images that are hyperlinked, add border=0 into your code at the end before the > tag closes.

I am loving that jacket! I have tunics that I prefer as dresses as well and I think this skirt is a great idea. (and you're right it looks like it's part of the dress) Also American Apparel has little biker shorts that work great too :)

that dress is soooooooo cool *.*

Sarah Anne said...

I must be much shorter on you because I have the same "tunic dress" and it's more than halfway to my knees on me! Almost awkwardly long - maybe I just got a f21 defect. ;)

Sarah Anne said...

I also have the ring (in that color and the purple too!) How do you deal with it turning your finger green? Or do you not have that problem? That's my only complaint about it :/

lil_budoy said...

omg! loving the dress... and the aqua ring! totally nice! wow! tribal style is cute!

I use the skirt under tunic secret very often. Opaque tights work wonders for teeny tiny "dresses" also.
