Let's Talk About It

Two of my favorite movies are Before Sunrise and Before Sunset . These two movies somehow flew under the radar, but both are fantastic interpretations of real life behavior. Both movies star Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy and were directed by Richard Linklater. Before Sunrise came out in 1995 and the story is about a man and a woman who meet on a train in Europe and end up spending a romantic evening in Vienna together. The problem is they only have this one night together. It is the story of bonding with someone only through conversation (this may be why some people don't like it. You have to be able to sit through a movie of just talking). I think it is beautiful.

Before Sunset came out in 2004 and is the story of the same couple meeting again nine years after their night together. They get to see if that night was just a romantic dream or if they are meant for each other. Such a wonderful story about life and love.

Taylor, why are you so cute? I LOVE "Before Sunrise" so much that I still have it on VHS, which I purchased circa 1995, and I don't even have a VHS player anymore! I was a sophmore in college when it came out and spoke to me on so many levels. I tried watching the second, but for some reason never finished it. Was is good? Should I rent it again?

If you liked the first one then you will love the 2nd if only to have a finish to the story!!

Richard Linklater really is fearless. It takes a lot of courage to make films like "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset."
